The Best Business Is One That Ebbs and Flows with Your Energy
When it comes to building a business, many entrepreneurs believe they must have everything perfectly structured—from start to finish. Every detail needs to be mapped out, every task planned to the minute, and systems should run like a well-oiled machine. This belief has long been influenced by masculine energy, where control, rigidity, and predictability are seen as the foundation of success. But what if I told you that the best business is the one that ebbs and flows with your energy?
This is where the magic happens! ✨
The Importance of Structure as a Foundation
Let’s not dismiss structure entirely. Think of it like the bones of your business. Before you can get creative with all the extras—like your offerings, branding, or marketing strategies—you need a solid foundation. In business, this means systems that keep you organized and functional. Your basic operations need to be in place: how you deliver your service, how you make sales, and how you stay on top of your finances. These essential structures are what keep your business standing strong, especially when things get chaotic.
But here’s the truth: Once that solid foundation is set, it’s time for your energy to take over.
The beauty of building a business that aligns with your unique energy is that it allows room for creativity, flexibility, and flow. This is where the true magic happens.
Breaking Free from Limiting Beliefs
We’ve been conditioned to believe that a business needs to be meticulously structured to succeed. We’ve been told it has to run like a well-oiled machine—every part working in perfect harmony, no room for error. But this belief is limiting. It’s rooted in an outdated mindset that prioritizes control, predictability, and rigidity.
But what if success in business didn’t come from following a rigid, step-by-step process? What if we could move away from that masculine energy and instead embrace the fluidity and freedom of feminine energy?
As a society, we are moving toward embracing a more balanced energy—a blend of structure and flow. And when it comes to business, this is the key to running a truly sustainable venture.
A Personal Story: How I Found the Magic in Flexibility
This lesson hit me in a deeply personal way when I became a single mom. I had no clue what I was doing. Sure, I understood the basics—the “Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs” and the essentials of child-rearing. But the real essence of motherhood? I had to feel my way through it.
In many ways, I had to unlearn the conditioned beliefs I grew up with. My parents made it clear I would never be a “fit” mother, and that stuck with me for a long time. But I didn’t want my son to grow up with the same limitations. I wanted to create an environment that encouraged creativity, autonomy, and choice. I wanted him to know that his opinions mattered and that he had the power to make decisions in his life.
One of my favorite traditions we had was called Upside Down Dinner Night.
Upside Down Dinner Night: The Magic of Structure and Flow
Here’s how it worked: I’d plan out the meal—appetizer, salad, entrée, and dessert. I would write down each dish and assign a number to it. Those numbers went on small pieces of paper, which I placed into what we called the “Upside Down Dinner Box.” When it was time to eat, my son would stick his tiny hand into the box (with a drumroll for extra effect) and pull out a number. Whatever number he pulled was what we ate first.
Some nights we’d eat dessert before the main meal. Other nights, we’d eat the appetizer last. It wasn’t always logical, but it was fun, and it was a game we both looked forward to. And let me tell you—he would manifest his choice. He would close his eyes and say, “I want the cookies!” (or whatever the dessert was that night), and guess what? More often than not, that’s what came up first.
Bringing This Into Business
You might be wondering, what does this have to do with business?
Well, think of the structure of your business as the meal plan: the essentials—your basic operations, your services, and your offerings. These are the “numbers” in your business. They are the foundation upon which you build. But it’s the flow—the creativity—that truly makes it magical.
In business, the structure gives you a solid starting point, but it’s the flow that breathes life into your work. Just as we didn’t know if we’d eat dessert first or last, you don’t always have to follow a strict, predictable path in business. You’re allowed to follow your intuition, adjust your plans, and allow your energy to lead the way.
This is where the magic happens.
Creativity, Energy, and Flow in Business
What I learned from motherhood—and from that simple, yet powerful, tradition of Upside Down Dinner Night—is that life is about choice and creativity. It’s about working with your energy, not against it. And when you bring this energy into your business, you create something authentic and sustainable.
Yes, you need structure in your business to keep things running smoothly. But the magic lies in how you move through that structure. The programs you create, the way you deliver them with your unique gifts, and the energy you bring to everything you do—that’s what makes your business thrive.
Having a clear framework is important, but don’t let it trap you. Instead, use it as a guide, and let everything else—your creative ideas, intuition, and natural rhythms—flow around it. This balance of structure and flow is what will allow your business to be not just successful, but also sustainable in the long run.
Embrace the ebb and flow of your business and watch it transform into something truly magical. After all, life—and business—isn’t about following a rigid plan. It’s about making choices, using your creativity, and allowing your unique energy to guide you to success.
Remember, just like my son learned, it’s okay to eat dessert first sometimes. Let your business flow in a way that works for you—and enjoy every bite of the journey!
